The World's Heaviest Woman Can't Stand Up, So Doctors Do What It Takes To Change Her Life

She had to be airlifted and taken to another country to get the surgery that would transform her!

A woman from Egypt, Eman Ahmed Adb El Aty, is believed to be the heaviest woman in the world at 1,102 pounds. The 36-year-old hasn’t left her home in 25 years…

The walls had to be torn down so that she could be air-lifted to a hospital in India. Eman’s weight isn’t entirely food related. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala believes that she has lymphoedema, a long-term condition that causes the swelling of body tissues.

She has also been diagnosed with elephantiasis, another condition that causes body parts to swell.

The doctors put Eman on a 1200-calorie diet to lose weight in order to perform bariatric surgery. Since January, she has already lost around 220 pounds.

‘The Doctors’ from the TV show of the same name provided updates on Eman’s situation. The surgery has been performed and she is recovering steadily. Dr. Travis praised the doctors in India, who are highly skilled, for offering to help Eman, who might still be confined to that bed today, were it not for their help.

“We are happy to inform all well-wishers that the medical team has successfully performed the surgery on Eman Ahmed,” the hospital said.

The doctors in India aren’t only concerned with Eman’s weight loss however, they are treating her medical conditions as well, to get to the source of the issue.

“The future course of action for the medical team working on her will be to correct all her associated medical problems to get her fit enough to fly back to Egypt as soon as possible,” the hospital said.
