Philippe Morgese, from Florida, is the single father of Emma, who is 9. Every single day, he would style her hair the same way: in a plain ponytail.
As Emma grew older and her hair got longer, she looked to try some different hairstyles. So, one day, the little girl told her dad about a hairstyle she wanted him to create.
Philippe began teaching himself how to do the complex hairdo. Gradually, he learned how to do all the different kinds of braiding techniques. These included some that most of us don’t even know exist! His fishtails and princess braids kept getting better with each try.
This entire exercise made Philippe realize that most other dads had no idea how to properly style their daughters’ hair. This gave him the idea for the “Daddy-Daughter Hair Factory”, where he teaches other local fathers what he’s learned.
“Many of them struggled with basic hair care and styling,” Philippe recalled in a 2015 interview. “I’m not a professional, but I had the best intentions and I was sure I could help.”
He believes that his bi-weekly classes give dads the ability to bond with their daughters over something that is important to them.
“I think it’s a service to the community, and it is important to do our part,” Philippe continues, “The bond between a parent and their child is special. I hope this story inspires others to volunteer their time to help those in their community.”
