Sassy the Pit Bull Wasn't Supposed To Survive 3 Years, But She's Still Going Strong!

Despite complications surrounding her dwarfism, Sassy the pit bull is still living happy and healthy, and shocking veterinarians in the process!

Sassy the pit bull was born with dwarfism, along with a number of serious congenital deformities.

Her condition has left her with twisted legs, underdeveloped feet, and hip dysplasia, among other physical difficulties. She has difficulty moving and breathing, and is unable to properly bark.

These issues are most likely the cause of inbreeding, and tragically most puppies who face the same challenges as Sassy are euthanised, due to being seen as ‘undesirable’.

Fortunately for Sassy, Ernie Altamirano of Long Island, NY, saw something in her that perhaps too many shelters wouldn’t see, and immediately fell in love with the disabled pup.

When he decided to take her home to join his other two disabled doggies Chiqui Gonzalez and Dolly Parton, his friends and family, along with the vets and the rescue organisation themselves warned Ernie not to grow too attached to Sassy, because the chances were extremely high that she wouldn’t live past the age of three.

And yet, recently, Sassy celebrated her fourth birthday!

Despite her limitations, Sassy is still healthy, active, and extremely social!

“She’s got a lot of problems,” says Altamirano, “but she’s totally smart, and she has no idea any of these things are going on.”

“She’s so sweet! You can’t not love this dog. She’s just the happiest little girl.”
