The Emergencies Ministry of Russia – EMERCOM – are coordinating and conducting civil defence exercises, which an extraordinary 40 million Russians are set to partake in.
The drills will train citizens to prepare for nuclear, chemical, or biological attacks from the West specifically. Included in 40 million who are involved with the training will be more than 200,000 specialist units, as well as paramilitary and military divisions, fire services, and local governing bodies.
As Russia’s involvement in Syria continues to intensify, the government is anticipating a strong retaliation from the West, particularly the United States.
EMERCOM are running the exercise alongside the Ministry of Civil Defence. A statement from EMERCOM reads:
“The drill will rehearse radiation, chemical and biological protection of the personnel and population during emergencies at crucial and potentially dangerous facilities. Fire safety, civil defence and human protection at social institutions and public buildings are also planned to be checked. Response units will deploy radiation, chemical and biological monitoring centers and sanitation posts at the emergency areas, while laboratory control networks are going to be put on standby.”
Putin’s ministers are reportedly building, or according to some Russian media, have already built nuclear bunkers that are large enough to house Moscow’s entire population of 12 million residents.
The United States is currently in possession of 6,970 nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Russia has 7,300.
The training is obviously concerning, as it doesn’t just indicate that Russia are preparing to be the victims of nuclear attacks, it also implies they may be launching their own in the very near future…
