The wait for the next iPhone is nearly over. The suspense is high as everybody awaits the phone that Apple states will be revolutionary. The phone’s release date, which is also Apple’s 10th anniversary, makes the expectations we have especially high.
The President of Sharp, Tai Jeng-wu, has revealed that the 8 will have an OLED screen.
“The iPhone has been evolving and now it is switching from LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) to OLED panels,” Jeng-wu said.
“We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation. It is a crisis but it is also an opportunity,” he further explained.
This means that the phone’s price tag will receive a boost. However, experts state that OLED screens have a better display because of their enhanced color reproduction.
The prime feature, however, is that it will feature an “Infinity screen”.
The screen will extend to the entire face of the phone.
Benjamin Geskin over at iDropNews has come up with some concept designs of what that will look like.
The concept puts the shortcut bar at the bottom of the screen.
The phone might also have a curved back!
The Nikkei Asian Review revealed, “A supply chain source familiar with iPhone designs revealed the size of the order, which was in line with an estimate by David Hsieh, senior director at research company IHS Markit. It will be the first time Apple adopts a curved OLED screen for its iPhones, marking a major overhaul and generating high expectations for the model.”
“Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations.”
The Sun, however, reports that this particular iPhone might be pushed back as far as 2018.
