The massive carcass of a sea creature that cannot be identified by experts washed up on the shore of an Indonesian island Friday.
Asrul Tuanakota first discovered the body, which sits at 15 meters long, on Hulung Beach located in Seram Island. It was initially believed to be a shipping container or washed-up boat.
Investigators revealed that the unknown creature had been dead for three days or so before its arrival on the beach’s shore, the blood of which turned the water surrounding it completely red, according to the Jakarta Globe.
Tourists instantly began flocking to the shores in order to catch a glimpse of the carcass despite the local police’s attempts to close off the region.
Appeals for Information
The nation’s Marine and Coastal Resources Management stated that the body was likely that of a whale, but other claim it appears to look close like a massive squid.
The creature’s cause of death was not yet confirmed.
Residents in the Seram Island requested government officials to assist them in clearing out as well as identifying the remains after the body began to decay.
The discovery itself has baffled marine experts throughout the globe.
The Deputy Head of Sakhalin Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography’s Forecasting department, Nikolay Kim, stated: “Judging by the appearance of the head, this is clearly some big dolphin. According to a characteristic of the skin, it is a rare species.”
“I doubt that it lived in our waters. Most likely, the animal was brought by the warm current.”
“We often get tropical and subtropical species here and, when they cool down, they stay here and then die.”
“I can confidently say that this is some kind of a dolphin. However, it has fur. It’s unusual. Dolphins do not have any fur.”
