The stress and expectations of modern life means that sleep is at an all time low. There is an increasingly disconcerting number of adults who feel tired, groggy, and stressed. A gym in the UK has capitalized on this idea and is offering napping classes.
You can go to the gym, stretch for 15 minutes, sleep for 45 in ‘ideal temperature’ with strangers and still have your friends think you’re working out. That is, until you wake up and see them sleeping in the same class.
This proclaimed ‘Nap-Ercise’ promises to “reinvigorate the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calorie,” which is just vague enough to be plausible.
What you wouldn’t expect is that there is scientific data to back it up.
A study at UC Berkley indicated that napping in the middle of the day can increase your brain’s learning capacity. Another study in Allegheny College in Pennsylvania indicated that those who took a nap for 45 minutes in the middle of the day were better equipped to deal with stress than those who did not.
The David Lloyd Clubs in the UK offer this class and depending on its success, the class might even proliferate to other clubs across the country and hopefully, the globe. The club also might start charging cash for the class if it succeeds, as it is available on a trial basis only.
Feel too tired to work out? Just go to sleep at the gym.
A UK-based gym is now offering a sleeping class which they have coined ‘Nap-Ercise’.
The class involves 15 minutes of stretching, followed by 45 minutes of sleeping.
Sleeping with strangers, no less, while still being able to claim that you frequent the gym a lot.
The description says the class will “reinvigorate the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calorie”.
