Now stop imagining, and come to terms with the brilliant reality that chocolate is actually good for your health and productivity! A study by scientists at Syracuse University, New York, has determined that eating chocolate regularly, particularly in the morning, has positive effects on your cognitive performance; improving memory, and helping your brain to develop and adapt to abstract thinking. Basically, chocolate gives your brain the energy it desperately needs when you wake up in the morning.

The positive impacts of chocolate stretch cognitive performance, though, as it was also revealed that chocolate can actually help people to lose excess weight!

’When you wake up, your brain needs energy immediately,’ said Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz. ’This is the time of the day when your body converts food into energy. Later in the day, when you eat, your body and brain are still in high-alert mode, saving the energy from food as fat reserve. This is how you gain weight even when eating less.’

Cocoa beans contain a nutrient called flavonoid, which is found in many teas, red wines, and fruits. It’s precisely this nutrient that gives chocolate it’s positive effect. Jakubowicz suggests that while it can be extremely beneficial in the morning, chocolate should never be eaten after 9am. The earlier you have breakfast, the better.

Years ago, researchers from Tel Aviv University claimed that they ate chocolate every single morning, and that the sweet treat helped them stay focused and energised, improving their work significantly.

So, there you go! All your dreams have just come true. Chocolate for breakfast! Breakfast is sorted!
